Our story

Paperwork shouldn't feel like a wall

HowDoYa was built on a simple belief: the most important documents in your life should be the easiest to understand.

Founder & CEO, HowDoYa

I kept watching people I loved put off the most important paperwork of their lives — not because they didn't care, but because the process felt overwhelming. I built HowDoYa to change that.

Jasmyne Dennis-Peterson spent years watching families navigate the aftermath of lost documents, unclear wishes, and paperwork that was never completed. A legal professional turned entrepreneur, she saw firsthand how the complexity of estate planning left ordinary families exposed — not because they didn't care, but because no one had made it simple enough.

She founded HowDoYa with a straightforward mission: turn the most intimidating paperwork in your life into a guided, plain-language experience that anyone can complete. No law degree required. No confusing jargon. Just clear questions, honest answers, and a path forward.

Our mission

Make family protection accessible to everyone

Estate planning has historically been the domain of the wealthy — those who could afford attorneys and the time to navigate complex processes. HowDoYa exists to level that playing field. We guide everyday families through the paperwork that protects the people they love most, in language they can actually understand.

What we stand for

Family first

Every feature we build starts with one question: does this make it easier for a family to protect itself?

Plain language always

We translate legal complexity into plain English. If a 16-year-old can't understand it, we rewrite it.

No fear, no pressure

We guide, never push. Our job is to make the process feel manageable — not to scare you into action.

Built for real families

Single parents, blended families, multigenerational households — we design for the full spectrum of how families actually look.

Ready to protect your family?

It takes less time than you think. Start with one question.
